Press Club Kolkata To Set Up ‘Bangabandhu Sangbad Kendra’
The time is now to set up the long-awaited "Bangabandhu Sangbad Kendra" (Bangabandhu Media Centre) in the Press Club Kolkata (PCK) the oldest of journalists working in the subcontinent.
Broadcasting and broadcasting minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud will formally open the new facility built in honor of that of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the PCK premises on the 28th of October, Snehasis Sur, president of the club, confirmed BSS on yesterday (Saturday).
The media center, which is equipped with modern facilities for digital technology, including scanners, computers as well as an exhibition hall, an overhead projector will be established at the premises of the club with the assistance of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, West Bengal.
In the past, the minister inaugurated "Bangabandhu Media Center" the unique in nation located at the Press Club of India (PCI) in New Delhi early last month.
"Setting up an Sangbad Kendra after the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is an enormous honor as the man (Bangabandhu) is equally well-known in India particularly within West Bengal for his life long struggle to create an independent Bangladesh," Mr. Sur declared.
Speaking to BSS in the past, he stated that it is an honor to Bangabandhu known as a journalist who was a major contributor to the media freedom throughout the region. The media center is expected to play an important function in letting the younger generation of Bangladeshians know the real story of Bangladesh as well as Bangabandhu in particular.
He added that the participants of the group are delighted to learn that a media centre is being built in the name of the legendary politician Bangabandhu in a period when Bangladesh has been celebrating its centennial of Bangabandhu and the golden jubilee anniversary of Bangladesh's independence, and 50 years of diplomatic relations.
In this context he referred to the significance of the Press Club Kolkata during Bangladesh's War of Liberation in 1971 and said that it played an important role in spreading the information about the Bangladesh Liberation War all over the world during these crucial times.
Ranjan Sen, the First Secretary (Press) of Bangladesh the Deputy High Commission in Kolkata told the news agency that they are ready to officially inaugurate"Bangabandhu's Sangbad Kendra. "Bangabandhu Sangbad Kendra" at the Kolkata Press Club on October 28.
He added that The Information and Broadcasting minister will arrive in Kolkata on the 26th of October for an official visit of four days. Along with launching the media center the minister will also meet with West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Bandopadhaya and make a trip to Murshidabad.
Minister Sen will leave Kolkata to head for Dhaka on the 29th of October the minister said. Sen said.
